Bed bugs are notoriously difficult to eradicate. While some products tell you that you can get results from a DIY treatment, the reality is that you will need professional help for most bed bug infestations and you will want to know the best way to prepare for bed bug services.
That does not mean that there is nothing you can do to help get rid of these nasty critters. In fact, if you take a little time to properly prepare your home or business for a bed bug treatment, you make it much more likely that the treatment will be effective.
Once you get rid of bed bugs, you want them to stay gone.
That means understanding how you got them in the first place. Bed bugs are carried into your home. They travel in luggage, backpacks, and suitcases. They may even hitch a ride on shoes or clothing. After they enter a space, they slowly take over. They may initially infest a single room, but they can move through the spaces in your walls and floors and spread to other rooms, as well.
They are notoriously difficult to detect. Bed bugs are very small. They are also experts at hiding. They may live in sofas, beds, curtains, smoke detectors, outlets, and small electronics. They also live behind baseboards and even underneath loose wallpaper. When looking for bed bugs, you usually try to spot signs of them. They leave dark patches of droppings on sheets. Before we get there, you should remove all of the bedding, including any mattress pads or protectors, from the beds. Then, place it in plastic bags to transfer to the laundry. You also want to remove any other removable soft fabrics, such as drapes. If you cannot remove them, check them for signs of infestation and point out anything you notice to the technician. Wash any bagged items as soon as possible. If you wash it in temperatures higher than 60°C, you can kill any bed bugs in them. If you are not sure if your washer gets that hot, use a dryer on high heat afterwards. You want to vacuum thoroughly before we come. In fact, you probably want to do a thorough cleaning. That is because you will need to minimize your cleaning, particularly dusting and cleaning the floors, for 10 to 14 days after treatment.
